What a funny question to ask Christians? Can any genuine, Bible-believing Christian really forget about eternity?
Yes, from what I see of many Christians today. I even feel many who claim to have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior do not know a third of what they should about eternity.
When I see Christians flying into rages at the slightest provocations, when I see all the scammers crawling around Christian forums and churches talking like the Saints they are not, when Christian women are competing with the loose worldly women in lust-arousing style of dressing, when all we hear a lot of the time from many ‘top’ preachers are money messages and sweet-life messages, and when all we see Christians spending their money and time only on things that will make them enjoy this life, I think I should be excused for saying eternity is the last thing in the heart of many Christians today.
We must never forget that this life is a fraction of a second compared to eternity. The life of a man is like soapsuds. For a moment, it is there. Then it disappears forever. With every tick of the clock, with the passing away of every second, we move nearer to eternity. And the world is passing away… 1John 2:17 (NKJV).
How many years do you have to spend in the world? Fifty? Seventy? Eighty? One hundred, may be. But certainly not two hundred years. Not after the era of Methuselah and company.
Even, if you live for two years in this world, you will soon find that two hundred years will pass away too quickly for you.
If we have such a little time to continue here in this world, shouldn’t we take all possible care to see that the time of our sojourn here in the world is used in a way that will benefit us in eternity? And what’s the best way to do that? Live your life in a way that helps you to serve the purpose of God.
I appeal to every one of you my fellows to become eternity-minded. Let’s obey the Word of God that says, ‘If then you have a new life with Christ, give your attention to the things of heaven, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Keep your mind on the higher things, not on the things of earth.’ Col. 3:1-2 (BBE).
Whatever we do in this world must take into consideration what we will get for it in eternity – shameful reward or joyful reward. Our actions, speeches, behaviors, attitudes, must never overlook eternity.
